The laboratory of Professor Christine Müller |
“We do have to look at ways in which we can start gearing up the environmental message to be something more than simply an add-on to the way we do development and run our countries.” - Tony Juniper, Executive Director, Friends of the Earth, in the Planet Earth series of BBC Only two percent of Mauritius' native forests are still left today. Much of the environment of the island has been altered and degraded over the past centuries of colonisation. With its research, the Müller Lab wants to restore some of the damage done to this ecologically unique place. And this is only just the beginning... Sugar cane fields have eaten up the forests of Mauritius. Buildings and swimming pools litter the coast line. |
